Whether I’m using pastels or brush and ink, these are key elements in my artwork. I’ve come to realize that I like to create a calm place where the clutter of everyday life, with its bombardment of noise and activity, is replaced with a quiet sense of order and simple beauty.

 

Light plays an important role in my pastels because it has a strong effect on my emotions.  I love the warmth of natural daylight and the high contrast of values it produces.  The interesting abstract shapes that are often created by shadows fascinate me and often become a major part of my compositions.
